April Ross
April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball players to win medals at many Olympics. Alix Klineman has become a brand new Olympian and is set to join her in Tokyo. More than that though Ross is aiming to capture the first Olympic gold. It may well be that it is her last opportunity, given that she is 39 years old. The athlete is optimistic she can achieve top honors. If we perform at our very top or play well I feel like we can get that gold medal Ross stated on NBC Boston. Also, I am going be relying on a little bit of good luck. Ross is born in the year 1982. Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents as well as a her sister. Ross was a competitive athlete in a variety of sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. She was a basketball player and also ran track, in addition to her volleyball skills in the indoors as a pre-collegiate athlete. While she did well when playing indoors however, it was evident that her abilities were higher than average. In her time at high school, she played middle blocker outside hitter and setter at the tennis court as per her bio at the college. In recognition of her work she was awarded the 1999 Gatorade International Player of the year in Circle of Champions. In addition, she was awarded the 1999 Orange County Athlete of the Award for volleyball. Although Ross Klineman and Ross are a couple from 2017 onward, the former was already a big-time athlete on the beach long before their pairing. She has won major events twice, with various partners. The other has become an iconic player in the world of volleyball. For six years from 2007 to 2013 she teamed alongside Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Ross, the teammate of Kessy's, who took home the title of world champion together with Kessy in 2009 was also a major force on international stage. This duo went through to take home a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the group to beat for the gold. Ross was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. In 2016, the pair took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a player for the Trojans of USC in her college after graduating from high school. Her time at USC was impressive. As a freshmen in 2000 Her performance was rewarded with the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. The Trojans could also reach the Final Four with her help. In her sophomore year, she suffered a tremendous personal setback but managed to make it back as an All-American. The two years following her, she took the Trojans up the mountain and clinched consecutive national championships. Ross was an excellent player on the court, and was awarded the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the most outstanding female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross was never able to see her daughter make it to the top of beach volleyball. Ross's mom died from cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross had just become sophomore at USC. Ross is still awed by her parents who passed away. Margie has always been a source of inspiration for her in and out of the water.
